In today's competitive market the quality fish spawning has become an important factor. To meet this we have indigenously developed an innovative and research based product- OVATIDE® for inducing ovulation & spermeation

Hemmo Pharma is India’s only manufacturing company which has indigenously developed Ovatide® (sGnRH) for Fish Spawning. It is sold throughout India in fish farming and hatchery industries.

The active ingredient of Ovatide® is a synthetic analoge of the peptide hormone sGnRH. Extensive field trials with this product were carried out by the Central Institute of Fisheries Education (Deemed University), Mumbai, during two consecutive breeding seasons under different agroclimatic conditions and the results obtained in the case of various Indian major carps were most encouraging.

Ovatide® is appreciated and accepted in different states of India. They are already consuming considerable amount of OVATIDE®. Recently it has also been accepted in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Egypt, Iran and Russia.

Composition :
Ovatide® is a highly potent and ready-to-use injectable formulation consisting of a synthetic GnRH analoge and a dopamine antagonist dissolved in a mixture of aqueous and organic solvents. The viscosity of the solution has been specifically maintained at a level that makes its administration in the fish particularly easy.

  Method of Application

The first step involves the selection of sexually mature and healthy female/male fish. This is followed by determination of the weight and calculation of the amount of Ovatide® required to be injected to the fish as per the recommended doses. If the fish belongs to a very sensitive variety and sedation is necessary, it may be anaesthetized using any recommended agent in the usual manner.

The brood fish is then held firmly and calculated amount of Ovatide® solution injected intramuscularly in the region of the caudal peduncle above the lateral line with a 2 ml hypodermic syringe having 0.1 ml graduations and provided with a No.22 needle.
Only the required amount of Ovatide® solution should be withdrawn from the vial directly through the syringe and any trapped air expelled before giving the injection with needle pointing upwards.

  Recommended Doses

Repeated filed trials on induced breeding of fishes using Ovatide® were conducted by subject-matter specialists of the Division of Aquaculture, Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Mumbai, India under different agroclimatic conditions.
On the basis of the results obtained, the following doses of Ovatide® are recommended for various species of fishes (Table 1).

  Overall response of various fishes

The net result of using Ovatide® as an inducing agent for fish breeding becomes evident from the overall enhancement recorded in fish production by several folds. Use of Ovatide® represents the most modern and advanced technology for spawning of fish at considerably low cost. Fishes injected with Ovatide produce increased number of eggs through complete spawning with high fertilization and hatching percentage. Ovatide® produces healthy fish seed with excellent growth rate.
Following the injection of Ovatide® in brood fishes, the eggs are collected from the spawning pools/hapas within 8 to 10 hours and the spawn is harvested on the third day (approx. 60-72 hrs.) for calculating the hatching percentage.
Overall response of fishes bred with Ovatide® is presented in Graph 1 & Graph 2.

Ovatide® has also been tried successfully for breeding of two varieties of catfishes at SEAFDEC, Philippines and M/s. Inter Sea Fishery of Malaysia. It is now established that OVATIDE® is not only highly efficacious but also cost - effective as compared to other presently employed spawning formulations. Following are the data collected during the trials which will give a fair idea about the usefulness of OVATIDE®.
